Can you take a dog to Diamond Bay Reserve?

The short answer for a walk with a dog: where the off-leash area is, where the lead rule applies, and the different rule that holds in NSW national parks.

The rules, by where you stand

Diamond Bay Reserve is at Craig Ave, Vaucluse, a clifftop reserve known for its walk. The dog rules below are Waverley Council’s, from the council’s page for the reserve.

2 The reserveOff lead, within the area the council’s off-leash map shows.
3 The walkwayOn a lead along the coastal walk.
4 The bushlandNo dogs in bushland areas, except on designated paths.

The reserve page gives the three rules above. The off-leash map is where the council shows the off-leash area.

Where the rules change

On ground the national parks service manages, the rule is blunter. NSW National Parks says dogs and other pets are not permitted in most NSW national parks and reserves, though some regional parks allow them, as long as the dog is under effective control.

State forests are the other end of the scale: dogs are welcome in all State forests across NSW, the same page says.

The council’s record of the dog rules is short, which is why this guide is short.

The reserve page sets down three rules: off lead in the mapped area, on a lead outside it, and no dogs in bushland except on designated paths.
